This is the “Church of All Nations“, also known as the “Basilica of the Agony” which now stands in Jerusalem just beside what is believed to be the remains of the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus last prayed before He was surrendered by one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot.

Now I can see why it is called the “Basilica of the Agony”, but I’m not sure why this church is built beside the garden and at the same time called the Church of All Nations. Cause the first thing that come into my mind when I heard the name of the church is not about Jesus praying in the garden but of this:

18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

- Matthew 28:18-20

Which is also known as The Great Commission; it is the commission that Jesus has left us, as His disciples, with. It is one of the verses that remind us on our duty as Christians while we are living on earth.

I personally think that the three verses are very important. Firstly, it reminds us, of course, of the commission: to spread the gospel and the good news of Jesus Christ and to baptize them in the name of the Trinity. Secondly, it clearly states the idea of the Trinity, which is also another very important foundation of Christian faith. Thirdly, we are reminded that we have been blessed with the authority that came from Him, and so all we need to is depend ourselves on Him so His power may work through us. And last but not least, that God Himself is with us till the very end — and so the commission itself is something that we ought to do till the very end, for the glory of His name alone.
